The Sparq: The Business of Filmmaking (Let’s Be Honest)

A weekly note from Eunice — founder, filmmaker, builder

Hey friend!

Since I started The Sparq, it has been the place for me to share my journey as I build CineSparq paired with observations about the industry—what’s shifting, what’s broken, and what’s worth paying attention to.

But over the last few weeks, something became clear. Aspiring writers and filmmakers don't have an information problem.

We have a signal problem. There is no shortage of hot takes, threads, clever quips and breaking news. What’s missing IMHO is a place to slow those conversations down, test them, and turn them into something usable while filtering out doomsday predictions and speculative noise —especially if you're a creative trying to make business decisions about your work.

That’s WHY the shift is happening. Now here's WHAT we're doing and how you can not only stay connected, but deepen your understanding and engagement with likeminded creatives.

The Newsletter

Going forward, The Sparq will be more intentionally focused on the business roundup of the film industry. I'm talking things like pattern recognition, context, and what I believe actually matters beneath the noise based on my personal conversations with buyers, investors, and decision-makers across the ecosystem.

We're done reacting. Now we put all information into context and I'll share those insights at the top of each month so we can unpack them for the rest of the month inside the...

Sparq Society Community

Where the real calibration, dialogue, and collective pressure-testing is curated. Inside the community, we are free to converse, share perspectives, learn together and prepare to shape the future of film funding. We're not talking about technical aspects of writing or filmmaking here. This is intentionally a community to sharpen our business acumen the way we've already sharpened our craft.

The Sparq Society community is up and running now, but bear with me. I'm still flying solo and it’s early (very early).

There isn’t a lot there yet, and that’s mostly on purpose. I'm learning to launch lean which is kinda new to me as a recovering perfectionist LOL.

I'm not hoping to wow you at first glance. Instead, I'm carefully curating content by researching, analyzing and sharing what is most aligned with the goals you have collectively told me you want to achieve and the arbitrary obstacles that have held too many of us back for too long (access to film finacing and decision makers).

So I'll be sharing what I’m seeing in real time, asking better questions, and inviting other smart people like you in the ecosystem to weigh in. Not to debate for sport; but to sharpen our swords and the signal together.

Think of it this way:

The newsletter surfaces the signal.

The community helps us refine it.

Then, of course, as CineSparq continues to take shape, the community will be where exclusive opportunities, tools and data will be shared, all with the intention to prepare for what's next rather than reacting after we're already playing catch up.

I think these times are too delicate for empty commentary and we deserve more than mindless chatter because the direction we’re heading requires discernment, shared understanding, battle-tested assumptions, and conversations that don’t disappear into the void after the hype dies down.

If you’re one who prefers to observe, the newsletter will still meet you here.

But if you’re curious, thoughtful, and want to be part of building this from the ground up, even in its unrefined state, you’re welcome to join me in the Sparq Society:

See you inside,

Help a fellow creative find their Sparq by sharing this newsletter with your network.
And if you found your sparq accidentally, why not make it official by subscribing to The Sparq Newsletter. We grow stronger when we learn together.
